And So Begins Our Life on the Road...
I woke up bright and early to our first setback - apparently I missed the message about how I needed to call the RV place to set a pickup time. Oops. Despite my desperate pleas, they had no pickup times before late afternoon. So with no prospect of setting off until the crack of 4pm, we found ourselves with some bonus Chicago time on our hands. We chose to fill it riding Divvy bikes around the city,
and experiencing "the ultimate frozen collision between Mexico and Spain" at Uncle Julio's,
and generally goofing around.
But the today's big event was clearly the acquisition of our home on the road, 30 feet of unadulterated diesel-burning freedom!
At this very moment, Leslie is at the wheel as we hurtle through southern Illinois en route to our first stop outside of St Louis. We're anticipating a late arrival, but there's joy in our hearts and beer in our fridge, so it's all good. Tomorrow we take off early for the longest drive of the trip - St Louis to Amarillo. The twins promise to post a video tour of the inside of our RV tomorrow evening, so stay tuned! I'm also taking nominations for what we should name this behemoth.
